The Federation of European and International Associations established in Belgium - FAIB

has the pleasure to invite you to attend a lunch-debate on Thursday 14 April 2011 from 12h00 to 14h30

Speaker: Ms Nancy Carfrae, Database Manager UIA

Subject: The UIA: 100 years of documenting international civil society

Following up on the events organised around the 100th anniversary of the Union of International Association, the FAIB wants to give its members the opportunity of finding out / refreshing the many services this venerable, yet dynamic association can provide.

Indeed, the UIA, an independent research institution founded in 1907, has been documenting the nature and evolution of international civil society for over a hundred years. It currently maintains information on over 62,500 international organizations - 55,000 international non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and 7,500 inter-governmental organizations (IGOs) - and over 350,000 of their meetings.

To what purpose?

Using a case study of international association life in Brussels we’ll look at the kind of information UIA collects and how this information is used.
